Roses - Beautiful, Hardy High Country Roses

Species Roses

The Species and Hybrid Species roses are the original rose varieties found in nature from which all the others have been bred. They are vigorous bushes that thrive on neglect and tend to be exceptionally hardy. The flowers are single (with only 5 petals) and appear in early spring. They carry their hips into the winter, providing food for birds and winter color. The Species Hybrids represent the earliest successes with rose breeding and often bear double or semi-double blooms, while retaining the hardiness of the original species.

Our Codes:

Variety Name, Classification (date introduced)
Zone refers to USDA Cold Hardiness Zones - the lower the number, the hardier the rose.
Repeat bloom codes: rrr = excellent repeat bloom, rr = good repeat, r = occasional repeat, nr = once blooming
Fragrance codes: fff = very fragrant, nf = not fragrant
