Large Flowered Climber
(Christian Bédard, USA, 2017)
The large ruffled old-fashioned blossoms will take your breath away and falling in love with this lady is the only possible outcome. Are you ready to dance the night away? You better be, because the vigorous plant generates bounteous flowers just waiting for a dance partner. Well contained for a climber.

I ordered two Lady in Red roses to train along a trellis under my front porch. They arrived in excellent shape- High Country Roses sent healthy plants, nicely packed, which impressed me given how everything else I ordered this year arrived looking like an elephant sat on it for a week. I’m a newbie when it comes to gardening, and these are only the second roses I’ve ever planted.
These roses haven’t bloomed, but are growing well despite several setbacks. First, I had a delay in planting them. Then a gutter broke and a downpour badly tore up one rose shortly after it was planted, but it has bounced back. These roses are also mostly in shade- I plant to trim back our trees this winter and open the space to more light. Still, even with nearly getting swept away by rain in spring, suffering through drought all summer and not getting enough sun, they’ve tripled in size. The beautiful foliage seems totally resistant to whatever bugs and disease have been trashing my Julia Child roses just a few feet away. Hopefully with fewer setbacks, more light and more attention next year we’ll finally see some of those beautiful flowers.

Lady in Red has been in the ground for about 1 year in my Albuquerque NM home, zone 7 (hot and dry). Last year, she was busy building up structure, with the odd bloom or cluster (normal for own root climbers). This season, she took off like a rocket, throwing up multiple large strong canes, and has bloomed up a storm, either singly, or in clusters. The blooms are a deep velvety red, multi-petaled, and very showy. They last quite a while on the bush. I have this rose on an east facing wall, that gets about 7 hours of strong sun a day. This year (2023), we had a blistering July, with many 99-105 degree days, and this rose bloomed cheerfully on through the high temps (with a lot of watering from yours truly, LOL). Excellent rose!

A non-stop bloomer even in the triple digit summer. Beautiful red flowers with ruffled petals. Highly recommended

Short bush in Denver area, Not cane hardy and does not throw long canes like a climber. However blooms are gorgeous, do not attract Japanese Beetles and blooms well in Aug. (Higher heat) when other roses shut down.
