Bliss Parfuma – A Rose (love) Story – by Kimberly Dean
If I am asked what my favorite rose is, most of my Rose 🌹Buds already know the answer before I respond that Parfuma Bliss, formally known as Bliss Parfuma, and I lovingly call “Bliss”, has stolen my heart.
When I first saw Bliss, an Australian blogger had featured the Floribunda rose in her garden along with 5 standards. The blooms were highly petaled and the most perfect shade of light apricot pink. I wasn’t familiar with the name she used, “Fairytale Magic”, and quickly researched to find that in the United States it was called “Bliss Parfuma”. In researching through Helpmefind.com, I found that it was known through the following names and is part of a collection by Kordes known as “The Fairy Tale Collection”:
- Bliss Parfuma ®
- Fairytale Magic
- KO 03/1750-01
- KORmarzau
- Märchenzauber ®
- Parfuma Bliss

According to HelpMeFind.com, Bliss was bred by Tim Kordes in 2003. It was introduced to the German market in 2015 as “’Märchenzauber’. Australians were able to buy the rose three years later as ‘Fairytale Magic’.
PARFUMA® Bliss was acquired by Star Roses and Plants as part of the purchase of the North American distribution rights of Kordes Roses in 2017 and “Bliss Parfuma” became available two growing years later (2019). Star Roses and Plants found that the rose was an excellent performer against common rose diseases in their “no spray trials” in Pennsylvania. It was also the winner in 2016 of the “Golden Rose of Baden-Baden” Award – a very famous European Rose Trial.
I was finally able to add Bliss to my garden in 2020 and she didn’t disappoint in her first season with light pink/apricot color, swoon-worthy highly petaled 3.5” blooms, beautiful glossy leaves, delightful moderate fragrance, and disease resistance all in one shrub. Although Helpmefind.com indicated it would grow 36” tall and 28” wide, mine reached 4” tall and 3” wide.
Since buying my first Bliss, I have added nearly 40 more. I not only enjoy planting her in mass, but I can plant her where others have struggled in partial shade.
If you are a human, on earth, I hope you will consider planting Bliss Parfuma. Ok, it is rated at zone 5 and warmer. For my zone 4 peeps, grow her in your greenhouse! Oh, and if you see her in standard form, give me a shout!
