Damask – Portland (Unknown origins, c. 1880)
***Still Growing – Status update in April 2025***
Rose de Rescht is one of our all-time favorite Old Garden Roses. Very fragrant, fuchsia-pink double flowers bloom through the summer and fall. The plant forms a nicely shaped 3 to 4 foot tall bush with lush foliage. This rose is perfect for anyone just starting off with Old Garden Roses but look out, you’ll be hooked.
This is renowned Denver rosarian Peggy Williams’ favorite rose and that is a serious endorsement.

A truly beautiful rose with a very deep fragrance

I have had this rose for two years. It faces west in full texas sun. It does not mind the heat. Blooms all spring summer and fall. 3 ft y’all just after 2 years. Have had no problem with disease at all with this rose. Healthy foliage. The color is gorgeous and the scent is very strong and wonderful.

I garden in zone 7b in a humid environment in this rose is very healthy for us. A beautiful pop of fuchsia. I have one spring flush and usually a small flush later in the season. For a video to see the size of bloom and habit: https://youtu.be/dE-quWxMuNA

Rose de Rescht has been 100% hardy for me in zone 4 and is a phenomenal performer. The fragrance is perfect classic old rose and it’s been lovely in the vase and even used in cooking for rose syrups and decorations. I’m happy with the rebloom too, it is rarely without blooms from spring to winter. The fuchsia color is very striking and immediately draws the eye.

My order was delayed because this rose was too small to ship. Since then this rose has flourished and is perfectly healthy. The foliage and plant structure alone make this worth growing.

What gorgeous little flowers on this beautiful old garden rose. It’s a very charming plant when in bloom, and nice-looking as a shrub the rest of the season.

The fragrance is even more magnificent than the bloom, which is saying something!
A compact plant with decent repeat: what more could you ask of an old rose?

This rose bloomed beautifully for about three years then both plants died. I believe that even though zone 7, southern Utah heat at 5,200′ was too much for the rose. I used drip irrigation and mulch, and still I lost these beautiful rose plants. The climate here is just getting too hot Zone ratings need to reflect heat as well as cold, as Zone 7 also includes Seattle – truly a very different environment, and a place that I lived prior to the Utah high desert.

I’m in zone 4a/b and have had RdR for two seasons. The blooms are small sized, but a beautiful color and it was still blooming very late in the season for me (our first frost this fall was very late). The fragrance is awesome! I had no dieback on mine last winter and our lowest temps were almost -30.
